Six Gun

I’m interested in getting a western theme post started entitled “Six Gun”. Story to take place during the gold rush in Montana. Civil war has already taken place. The west is becoming more developed. Native American tribes are on killing sprees in the area due to the development of their land by the “white man”. Post will take place in or around the small settlement of “Meadow Brook”. Join in as you please. Take part in the story line as a gunslinger in town, brothel owner, bar tender, gold miner, farm hand, native American, etc. This series will be rated R for language, sexual imagery, drug references, and violence.

I’m not going to set any strict rules to this post so long as the regular forum guidelines are followed. Anyone who wishes to get involved in this story can do so. Just post here in the Six Gun ooc thread to let me know that you are going to start posting. Post your character sheets in this thread as well . Characters need to be set up as follows.

Profession: Currently seeking employment.

Background: Mason Ford took part in the civil war. After four years in the war he was released. He is unmarried and seeking employment. The development of the west has peaked his interests and thus he has made his way westward, looking for a fresh start.

Name: Chepi
Age: 28
Race: Apsaalooke (Crow)
Profession: Hunter, gatherer
Background: Chepi was raised by Crow parents, who found her in a bundle, abandoned by her previous parents (who were likely killed by white settlers). She was raised as a gatherer and leader of the domestic realm, but due to encroaching white men, the women of her tribe had to learn to use weapons to defend themselves. She is an excellent shot with a bow and arrow both on foot and on horseback. There has been talk of other tribes banding together in an effort to raid the nearby white town, but Chepi wants no part of it. She just wants to live in peace.

(I probably shouldn't join this but I had been fighting the urge to make a western myself. I will try my best to post often but I am known for being a bit slow...due to this, if you would like me to NOT join I don't mind.)

I posted. I imagined that she lived on plains near a small forest, with the town somewhere nearby. Is that ok?

Read your post, looks great. If we can get some more people involved over the next few days, this will be a really interesting story.

Thanks, I like yours to. I don't know if we can get more members, I've found that a lot of people avoid western themes for some reason.

I know, right? I wasn't sure if people were (1) ashamed of american history, (2) had never watched a western in their life, or (3) just didn't give a damn!

I'm working on a paper so I likely won't get to post for a couple of days. But I have some awesome ideas regarding the tribe raiding the settlement, should be interesting once we get that far!

I'm looking forward to it. I have some spare time, I think I'll join in another slower paced story line somewhere. Maybe in the mean time a couple of others will join in.

Race: American (Kentucky)
Profession: Cowboy (Rider for the "Bar T" brand)
Background: A former sergeant attached to the Sixth Light Cavalry Regiment who was present at a minor skirmish with a Cree raiding party. He was discharged after the battle when his head was nearly taken off by a mortar, his horse spooked and he was severely injured. With nowhere else to go, his wages taken and his house foreclosed on, he headed west with the last of his money.

There, for his proficiency in horseback riding and shooting, he was hired by Laney Tull, owner of the Bar T spread in northern Texas. He has been moving cattle for a few years now, and just stopped in Meadow Brook while leading a herd.

Profession: Drifter
Background: Jake was too young to fight in the war, so he had to stay home and help his mother keep their farm while his father and older brother went to fight for the Confederate cause. One night his mother sent him on a run to the general store for a few things the house was lacking, and when he returned the house and the barn and the crops were on fire, the animals all stolen by Yankee bushwhackers. His mother was dead on the front porch, her chest torn apart by bullets. So Jake ran away, afraid to find out what had happened to his father and brother.

Since then he's been stealing to survive, wandering from one town to another, his suppressed grief, fear, and confusion turning him very bitter very quickly. Since then he's taught himself to fight, shoot, drink, swear, and rob. Very few people take him seriously to start out with because he's "not old enough to shave," but when you've got aim like his, those kinds of attitudes don't last very long.

And I guess I could post next if my character is good...? Is there an approval process or anything?

Haha, that is so way cool! It's like my most favorite last name in the world, becaue it's my most favorite fictional character's last name. xD

I've been debating on whether or not to put up a character and decided I'm enjoying the idea of this. Here we go.

Name: William "Billy" Smith
Age: 39
Race: Caucasian
Profession: Black Smith, former hired gun
Background:

Billy was originally born in Alabama. His father was a black smith, his fathers father was a black smith. Billy never wanted to be a black smith. He absolutely hated working at the smithy from sun up to sun down while his friends played but his father was a hard man. When he came of age Billy left. Instead of taking up the family trade, Billy went to fight with General John Hunt Morgan in the 2nd Kentucky Irregular Corp. His military service was fairly successful. Billy was apart of Morgan's Raid and numerous skirmishes throughout the south.

Billy left the Irregulars before the war ended and headed west. The taste of war had opened his eyes. He traveled the west working as a gun for hire. Doing whatever work he could find. He settled in Montana, used what little money he had to buy a small smithy and has permanently hung up his gun belt.

I am the only native...I wonder what is going to happen to my character when her tribe get's its ass kicked by a bunch of cowboys ???

That would be awesome! You could be Crow or be Sioux or Blackfeet that meets up with the Crow when they raid Meadow Brook.

Haha, I noticed that there weren't many natives, too, but I reeaally wanted to be a gunslinger brat. xD The little-girl-playing-pretend side of me sort of took over.

It's cool I don't mind! For a while skirmishes between the groups will be good, but eventually we'll get bored with that and when that happens, history has proven that it ain't the cowboys that go home!

I'm working on my Native character right now.

Does anyone happen to know if the Crow practiced scalping? I am admittedly not sure, since my focus has always been on SW native groups.

Not-So-Fun Fact: Did you know that there is biological evidence which supports the idea that many people have been scalped...and lived to tell the tale? Yikes!

Ooooo, that's crazy cool! And no, unfortunately, I am unaware of the Crow's scalping habits or lack thereof.

I'm not sure about the Crows unfortunately. But yes, I have heard the people lived through scalping. It's not such a far fetched idea. I mean, people survive getting their throats cut (although it is rare).

I'm going to go ahead and go with a tentative "yes, they do scalp" so feel free to utilize that with any aspect of the story.
