Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
Hey. I'm not much of a weeaboo myself, but I dabble in it.
Unfortunately, thanks to this site's rules, we can't share 'stolen' versions of the stuff, so, yeah. We'll just have to make due talking about them.
One that's been rather highlighted in my mind recently is a manga called NaruTaru. And a lot of other things, but most people know it by that name. It's kind of like a Japanese version of Watchmen, but replacing the superheroes with creatures called Dragons that are somewhat reminiscient of digimon. It starts out rather cute looking, like this little girl is going on a fun adventure, but after a few volumes it starts to devolve into very sick stuff.
They made an anime and it was only officially translated part of the way (the manga, I mean) and both were censored out the ass. Which is sad.
My avatar is actually a pic from it, a character named Norio Koga. He's a crossdressing runaway who has one of the strongest dragons in the series and also dies one of the most violent deaths. His death scene was by far the best part of the whole manga.
Anyway, you guys got your own stuff to share? Oh my god, your question marks are awesome. Why doesn't AWR have those? There it is again!

I gotta say, I was expecting more interest in this from you guys.
Maybe it's 'cause I posted it.

I don't know too much about anime, sorry to say, and I've never really done any manga reading either. The animes that I watched mainly consisted of kiddy stuff when I was younger, hehe. ^^

Re: Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
I'm not having enough time to watch anime these days. I did enjoy watching them, though. I mainly went with the 13 or 26 episode long ones, because when I'm reading or watching a series, I just can't stop it, and after some days of sleep depravity it's not much fun to endure the rest of the day.
I've posted some kind of chart of my favorites in the other thread around here, with favorite books, movies, etc, so I didn't feel the need to do the same in this thread, again.

*Nod* I've never really had that problem. I get sick of stuff like tv, animes, etc. very fast. I can usually only get engrossed in books, manga, etc. Stuff that moves at my pace, I guess.

Well, if you're too repelled by kiddy stuff...

Your post doesn't make much sense, but ok.
Just wanted to note: I've seen worse. And not drawn, or special effects, at that.

Oh, man, that came out weird...gotta fix that...
And yeah, of course there's worse out there. Much worse. Just making the case that it's not kiddy to try and push her out of her hole.

Hm. Well I wonder if showing her some random guro picture will convince her of the quality of adult anime and manga.
If you'd want to do that, you'd normally ask her what kind of stories she likes, and recommend an anime that you think might be worth her time.
Should you, Fate, be interested in anything, check the other thread for my recommendations and pick one that sounds fun, watch the first episode, and tell us what you think about it.
Well, for testing a series, you can just go to youtube or other video sites like veoh and in most cases find the episodes there, but if you want to watch the full series then, I'd recommend downloading the quality versions from torrents. (You usually get the whole series in one torrent file)
It's just so much more beautiful to watch.

WHAT THIS IS ILLEGAL GOOD SIR, FOR SHAME, YOU SHOULD BE BANNED RIGHT AWAY.

Too bad what I'm trying to do has nothing to do with quality. She said she was turned off by the kiddish aspects of many animes/whatevers, or at least it seemed like she did to me, so I responded with a fairly non-kiddish excerpt.

Hmm, I consider it hardly illegal; these are series that are (were) running in free tv, after all.
Of course you can still go and buy the DVDs, but having them is for material purposes only. You do not need them to watch the series.

Thanks, Kaito!
Ohh, and no, I didn't mean I was turned off by kiddish stuff. I just meant I was actually really into it! LOL! Like Digimon and Pokemon and Card Captors (of what I saw from it), and all that silliness. I got into Pokemon and Digimon when I was really young, and I've loved them ever since. But beyond those things, I just meant I haven't seen much of anything else. I do, however, love Miyazaki's films. <3
In the past, I've seen a couple episodes of Cowboy Beebop, which would probably be the closest to adult anime I've seen, I believe. Or, come to think of it, I also have the Animatrix on DVD as well, which was enjoyable. I think I can really like some animes, but like other things that have a super huge fan-following (like Final Fantasy VII), I get turned off by the fan-girls and such. I think that's kind of what ruins the image of it for me initially, to tell you the truth, but once I'm actually sitting down and watching something, I can really get into it. :3 There are so many types of anime shows out there. I should just look into the ones that sound appealing to me.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
I've been more into the mainstream animes more, to be honest. I also don't really read manga. It tends to bore me, more than often. . . Some of the shows out there are just too out there, too boring, give an immature vibe, and stuff like that. Though i have experimented with other shows quite a bit, i've found myself only watching an episode or three before i just get tired of the story, or get bored to death, or to the point i don't care enough to try to understand some of the more confusing shows.

I keep up with Shaman King and Naruto. Mangas only though, especially Naruto because I can't stand the poor animation quality.
For anime I like Guyver and Tekkaman, but I haven't watched those in a while.
I also like Saint Seiya but that's kinda obscure.

I was wondering about that too.
But to be on topic, Naruto gives me some laughs and the fights aren't too bad. But that's just me.

i didn't think naruto had/has a poor animation quality. Naruto isn't really all that bad, it's just mainstream and has been made trendy, like bleach. all the fillers and stuff get a little aggravating, yes, but all in all i enjoyed it, despite the main character being completely obnoxious.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
Not to mention the horrible, horrible storyline and extreme clicheness of nearly every single character's storyline.
Like, none of them have families. Angst this, angst that. Bleeegghh.
Gaara is the only redeemable character from the whole series, because he kills people with sand, and that's pretty 1337. Except maybe Haku, but I'm a sucker for androgynous characters.
And where are both of them? Haku got killed off way earlier than he deserved to be, and Gaara was, like...discontinued. I don't even know what happened.
So yeah. Nothing left in that series for me.

Beebop will always be near the top as far as anime series are concerned. Also a huge fan of Trigun and Fullmetal Alchemist, but was a little disappointed by how quickly the FMA series ended though; it felt rushed and just failed to live up to how the rest of the series ran. As far as comedy animes are concerned, Desert Punk takes the cake IMO, a very good balance between action and comedy with a large helping of boobies. XD
Dragonball Z will always have a place in my heart though (just hear me out before you start with the flaming/throwing hard objects at me
). Looking back at it now, it is a rediculously overrated and very stereotypical anime; but despite all of that, DBZ was the cherry popper that got me into anime to begin with. It's much like a first car in that sense, no matter how ragged, beat up, and otherwise a piece of crap, you will still look back on it fondly just because it was your first; but by no means are ever wanting to trade back to it.

Bepop = good.
DBZ = WTF !?!??!
BUT I can kind of understand where you are coming from then...
Only because it took your anime virginity.
One of my first animes had to be Last Exile, which was really really good (in my personal opinion), but was on Anime Midnight on the channel that eventually turned into G4
IT was called like Tech TV or something, before G4 bought it out.

Last Exile rocks! So much so that I bought my girlfriend the soundtracks (2 CDs) for Christmas because the both of us love that intro music. Though she in turn ruined the song's purity once she pointed out a segment of the lyrics. So much so that I will put it in spoilers to spare those who would rather not know. But know this: once you identify it once, it will stand out every time you listen to it no matter how hard you try to block it out.
Unfortunately she developed a huge crush on Alex Rowe >_> how can anybody compare to that level of badass? She straight up said that if he was real, she would leave me for him.... To be honest I wouldn't blame her. He is just so fucking cool! >_<
Thanks to netflix, I've seen the entire series and it was awesome all the way to the end.
- Spoiler:
About midway through the song, the lyrics sound like they are saying "garlic sauce". Although it seems like a simple phrase, the fact that you now know it, the song will probably lack its intensity everytime you come across that portion! I warned you...

Re: Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
A lot of my inspiration for wanting to become an animator comes from anime. Akira, Evangelion, FLCL, Tortoro, Astro Boy, just to name a few... But, I find it hard to get into new anime. I am in to a few things right now. I'm watching Lucky Star, Baccano!, and Blood +. But that's about it, which is actually way down from how often I used to watch anime. Trust me.

Re: Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
Akira is badass.
The anime is ages old but the animation is superb.
FLCL oh how I laughed, rolling on the floor. The chaotic nature of it makes it never boring.
Never seen Lucky Star; I'm not actually into loli series, and it took a lot of convincing me from a friend to even watch azumanga daioh; which I didn't regret, though.
Baccano! is one of my all time favorites. And Blood+ takes a really long time, but oh did I cry in the last episodes. Like a girl. ;_;
I've only seen a Last Exile AMV, looked nice and interesting, but never had the time to look further into it.
Bebop, well. It's okay, I guess, but I think it's overrated. The movie rocks more than the series, though. (which is the case with many anime, in my experience)
and DBZ. Oh hell yes, DBZ.
you never get so much animated testosterone in 20 minutes than in DBZ.
(except maybe if you're watching 300
)
If you can get over it's (many) flaws, DBZ is probably the most awesome anime out there ;D
Hmm Schrödinger, not to be offensive or something, but you do sound like quite a negative person. Lighten up a bit! It makes everything more enjoyable.

FLCL is one of my favorites, just because of how random it is as well as the fun rendering styles that are constantly changing. I like it so much that I have actually decided to name my (not too distant) future dog "Takun" after one of the main character's nicknames.

As far as anime goes yes I am into Bleach, definately, some of my most favorite animes have been Rune Soldier (Friggin hilarious), Those Who Hunt Elves (Friggin hilarious), Full Metal Panic?!, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I also love Miyazaki's works and Akira friggin ruled ^.^

Re: Anime/Manga Thread (and etc)
Nah, not lying to yourself. But when you look at something, do you notice the bad things first? Or do you notice the good things first? It's not about lying to oneself, but just giving the bad vibes not as much thought as the good ones.
Just saying, no offense.
Loki: You were the one who liked FMA, or was it someone else? Anyways, right now there's a remake airing, which is supposedly more like the original manga story. As far as I heard, there are quite some differences, and opinions state they're mostly good ones. Maybe have a look. (It's FMA: Brotherhood)
I've neglected watching Haruhi for a long time. After it had been recommended to me, I watched the first episode, and I must say, it was the WORST first episode I've ever seen, so I dropped it right there.
But after reading SO much fanboying about it and having some time I decided to give it a chance and started watching it and yeah, it was good. I especially liked the alien data entity and the fight scene.

Here are some of my favorites:
Hellsing
Death Note
Cardcaptor Sakura
Sailor Moon
Pokemon (the first season)
Full Metal Alchemist
Escaflowne
Ghost in the Shell
I am always searching for other good ones. I like ones with dynamic plots and characters or just great art. There's probably more.
