Plague's Projects
Mankind is the only species on Earth that wages war, and the only species that lies. These are what separate us from the beasts. War and lying. One must ask the question...
Who is truly the beast?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steel clashed, as lightning arced violently across the sky. Thunder roared in their ears, but it was as if the storm was not even there. Another flash of sparks, as the steel met again.
Bodies littered the ground, broken armour all that separated the former enemies. Arrows and shattered swords littered the battlefield, and the grass was stained crimson from the carnage that had only just died down.
Rain crashed down as the heavens spilled their tears upon the survivors. Was this the legacy of man?
They cared not for the tears of distant gods, having long ago turned their backs on the path of salvation. What did the dammed care for the mourning of beings so vain that they had simply watched this happen?
Steel clashed again, and cold Ice locked with bitter Fire.
Blood flowed from numerous wounds on their bodies, but neither would back down from this battle that had been so long in coming. With their fates entwined, this was simply destiny...
And only one thread left this scene intact. Another tragedy of the gods.
Pale white encased the Ice and Fire, while the darkest ocean framed the frigid Ice, and deepest midnight blew wildly around the dance of the Fires. Steel met again, and locked itself together.
Tattered cloth blew in the wind, as the two forces fought for breath.
"Vene..." The Fire crackled at it's counterpart, burning the air around it.
"Aria..." The Ice was almost unheard, although the rain seemed to freeze as it spoke. There was a brief silence, save for the crack of thunder.
Fire smiled.
"Mother would be proud to see how far you've come..."
Ice scowled.
"I don't care what she thinks of me..."
The steel struggled against itself, trying to best that which knew all of its tricks and strengths.
"Then why do you try to find her?"
"So I can kill the monster that took my mother away from me."
Fire laughed, its flames leaping at Ice with savage ferocity.
"Pathetic...it's because of her you can even fight me."
Ice lashed back, the frost suffocating the flames with frozen hatred.
"My mother did not do this to me! Your mother did!"
The steel parted, and Fire stared down its rival.
"And what does that make us, Vene?"
"It makes us nothing, Aria."
"It makes us the same."
Ice roared forward, her steel lunging for Fire's life. All it found was steel.
"We are nothing alike!"
"Still telling yourself that?"
"It's the truth!"
"Look around."
Silence filled the air, and the heavens roared no more, only their tears raining on both Fire and Ice.
Steel crashed against steel once more.
"You don't get it, do you?"
Steel met steel.
"We are nothing alike."
Steel met steel.
"And that's why we are the same."
Steel met steel.
Silence.
Steel met steel.
Fire locked with Ice.
Blood met Earth.
