Well, it all depends on your area. Like, mine we had things like:
Take a picture with the first afro you see.
Touch a goose(+5 points you catch one, another five if it bites you)
One that was more like a prank was put Tide in the water fountain at the park. Defiantly not the safest dare. However, it was damn funny to watch my friend do.
Win a game of gay chicken.
Find a blond Asian, take picture with blond Asian.
But a bra or borrow a bra, wear it over your shirt for the rest of the hunt.

It was really odd, but it was so much fun at the time. I wish I had kept the pictures, maybe I'll go do it again.

Small town Iowa- eclectic as it is with the Maharishi School- is not the most interesting place in which to have a scavenger hunt. ._.

I wonder if roleplaying is an interest to a certain age range, or if it's a generation thing.

Eh, s'not morbid, it's just true. Sooner you come to peace with it, the better.

Now, a question was asked earlier whether this was a generational thing or an age thing. Well, it must be generational because 80+ years ago, people would not have forum RPed in the forums, but I honestly think it is more inclined toward the age. Simply to state, much like everything in life for those in the late teen ages, freedom is sweet to taste and, for many, role playing at their leisure is simply another method of release, especially when embarking in the big, bad world out there >: )

Of course, I could be wrong and we simply happen to have this demographic via random chance. Truth be told, it is simply too small a number to give accurate conclusions.

Hurray! I am not the oldest on the forum. I was scared when I started reading this topic and everyone was like 'I am around 20' but now I feel young again. Anyway I think the reason the age group for the 14-16 isn't larger is because this forum caters to people who are experienced in writing. I know it took years for me to get good and if your 14 and good that means you must have started back when you were like 9. Anyway that's my two cents. I am off to work now. :sigh:

I don't think someone has to write for several years in order to become good. I will admit that I began when I was eleven, and I didn't really become good until I was eighteen, but some people only need a couple of years in which to grasp good writing, and some are inherently creative with which to begin.

Hey! That's relative. What if it is really, really old dirt?

I voted weeks ago, and thought I posted too. (Apparently not.) I fall under the the "younger than dirt" category.

Sunwolf, I got to my current ability in eighteen months. :F I fancy myself a "good" writer, and others do, too. (Or, at least they tell me I'm good so as not to hurt my fragile feelings.) Kathryn's right, some people just get "good" faster than others.

I'd say that generally there are few that are good immediately. Almost everyone has had some experience. There are also those with experience that still aren't good-- just less bad!

But experience is definitely a helpful feature. You need to learn how to deal with other people, and that isn't too easy at the start.

You guys are right. Some people just have a way with language or are exceptionally creative. I was attempting to generalize. I guess I didn't do that very well. Laughing

Re: Age Range

Post by The Melancholy Spirit on Fri Dec 04, 2009 12:38 pm

I started writing when I was around four or five, actually. Wasn't aware of this until recently because of the fact I barely remember much with any sense of vividness, but it came up in a conversation I was having with my father one day about how the younger you start to teach children things the more it influences them in a positive way in later years. The entire conversation started in reference to guys like Howard Lovecraft who was writing poetry at around age two or three, James Lipton who did the very same, and Mozart who was composing at the age of five (if not early).

Experience is always a factor though, whether it is two years or ten. But you also have to factor in other elements as well. For instance I take a lot of what I learn from things I read just as much as I learn from my own mistakes in writing. There is also the aforementioned factor of working with other people, which I did not start to actually do until I was in the 8th grade when someone referred me to the role-playing forums for an online game at the time. I still look at myself as being far from good though, just decent really.
