Providing a much needed balance to academia

Post by Nicola Christine on Mon Jul 11, 2011 3:05 pm

Hello,

I am very impressed with this forum. I love the stories and quality thereof - now I just hope I can live up to it. I love writing and use role-play as a balance to writing academic articles (as strange as it may sound). Mainly, I prefer fantasy, paranormal, historical or science fiction role plays. I do not necessarily have a gender preference in my characters - but I rarely do "fan-fiction" role plays. I prefer creating my own worlds and stories. I ask for a bit of patience till I have acclimatised myself to the customs and practices.

Oooh welcome aboard!!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I alway reward myself for getting any homework papers done by writing something I actually want to do and enjoy.

You'll find the inmates friendly, well-versed and hella good writers, you'll enjoy it.

Welcome to the FOG, Nicola! cheers

Writing fiction to balance non-fiction is awesome, but it works the other way 'round as well. Writing non-fiction helps diversify your mind and writing style. Nod

You've definitely come to the right place for, as I always say, eliterate role-playing. Wink I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work!

Happy writing, and enjoy the swirly mists! cheers

Welcome to FoG! I can also relate to writing role-play posts as a break from academia. As a matter of fact, that's what I've been doing today instead of writing a thesis proposal! Hehehe...oops... Embarassed

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your stay! Feel free to ask if you have any questions. The members and staff are extremely helpful and love nothing more than to answer questions and nibble on your soul while they're at it.

Oops...did I say that? Well...I guess the cat's outta the bag now! Twisted Evil

Hi, Nicola! Welcome aboard. Very Happy Thanks for the compliments!

It's interesting that you're both British and German. Tell us a little more about that! Do you know any German or do you just have some German relatives? I see your profile says you're in Bristol, so you must be living in the UK (which also means you have one of those lovely British accents us Americans always get so excited over - and understandingly so!). I also have relatives in Germany as well as Luxembourg, though I only know a little German. (My dad speaks both German and Luxembourg, in addition to English of course.) I would love to visit England someday, if only just to hear people speak. Laughing

It sounds like we have some similar interests in terms of role-play genres. Maybe I'll see you in one some time! Hope you enjoy yourself here!

Nope - I actually speak both languages. I grew up in both countries (and a few others). And I do have one of these accents. However, I still feel that the American audience simply has not yet met a real Birmingham or Liverpool accent - I cannot understand them and assume neither will they. On the other hand - is understanding necessary for it to appear sexy? Or possibly even detrimental. Something to ponder.....

Does your father speak old Luxembourgish? That is truly impressive. Only 390000 people worldwide are left who speak it.
