Name That Book!

Post by Guest on Fri Jul 17, 2009 3:49 pm

Lets start with rules.

11) NO GOOGLING! Please. That just ruins the fun.
2) 3 guesses per person and then can't guess again until a new quote/passage is put up.
3) Have fun!
4) if no one gets it after 4 posts, post what it is.

I'll start this little game.

Time passes. Even when it seems impossible. Even when each tick of the second hand aches like the pulse of blood behind a bruise. It passes unevenly, in strange lurches and dragging lulls, but pass it does. Even for me. - What book is this from?

Also, can I post something for people to guess while they guess yours? Very Happy

I guess I'll just do it anyway. Very Happy

You must guess who wrote:Save old age only. For that they had found no cure; and indeed the span of their lives had now waned to little more than that of other men, and those among them who passed the tale of five score years with vigour were grown few, save in some of the houses of purer blood.

That quote is from New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. Ugh, I can't believe that I remember that. I used to love the Twilight Saga back when it was new and semi-unpopular. Now, the very thought of it and the obsessive tweens gives me a migraine. No offense to anyone who loves it though. Smile

Here is my quote:

"A day is like a whole life. You start out doing one thing, but end up doing something else, plan to run an errand, but never get there... Your whole life has the same shape as a single day."

I'll expand the quote. ^_^

You must guess who wrote:...and skilled in the healing of wound and hurt, and all such sickness as east of the Sea mortal men were subject to. Save old age only. For that they had found no cure; and indeed the span of their lives had now waned to little more than that of other men, and those among them who passed the tale of five score years with vigour were grown few, save in some of the houses of purer blood. But now their art and knowledge were baffled; for there were many sick of a malady that would not be healed; and they called it the...

Urgh, this one is really familiar but I can't recall from what exactly... I think I even recall the author. Shot in the dark time: is it from Sphere by Michael Crichton?

Does that mean we're guessing a line from a movie, or does it mean the book was made into a movie? Or both?

Ah, right. Sorry about that.
Okay, this one is kind of long, but not too bad:

"In each of us lie good and bad, light and dark, art and pain, choice and regret, cruelty and sacrifice. We're each of us our own chiaroscuro, our own bit of illusion fighting to emerge into something solid, something real. We've got to forgive ourselves that. I must remember to forgive myself. Because there's an awful lot of gray to work with. No one can live in the light all the time."
