Gizmo! I had a Sheltie named Gizmo when I was a wee little girl. Also, I saw a pic of a dog in this thread earlier whose name is Mindy. Which kinda freaked me out at first because my name is Mindy.
Digital Muse & Kathryn - Yay! Sly Bones is just funny as hell. Julia had another Welsh Corgi that she named Penny. I say had because Julia had to put her to sleep a year ago. It was heartbreaking, but Julia did right by her Penny and held her until she closed her eyes and stopped breathing. Then she held her a little bit longer. So sad. Penny was blond and white, and she pretty much bossed Sly Bones around. So of course, Sly Bones needed someone he could boss around. Boo-Boo was it. Sly Bones is afraid of the kittens. Yes, he is afraid of the kittens. He doesn't get pushy really, but he ... well, yeah, I guess he does get pushy, lol. He nudges Boo out of the way and tries to run him over when its time to go outside. Come to think of it, he is rather pushy! Corgi's are fantastic and great with children. Well, mine have been. Penny was very protective of the children, especially protective of Julia. Those two were inseparable; to the point where the dog would walk to Julia's junior high and high school every day, sit in the lawn, and wait for Julia to get out of school!

Okay, so I had a couple of shots left on a roll of film so I shot my cat. I think it was Fate who had said she'd like to see a pic of my cat in color, so here are two liked pics of Tasslehoff Burrfoot, my furry kender, as he made himself VERY comfortable in my sweat jacket.
Oh! I'm on camera?
Human, take another pic and I will claw your eyes out.

Yeah, he's mostly Maine Coon cat. Still considered an infant, though he's about 2 years old now, I think. Apparently his kind aren't considered adults until at least the age of 4. I'd like to know who came up with that.

I finally have some pictures of my budgerigar Chaz!

That's him trying his hardest to stay as far away from the camera as possible.

And this is him with his Christmas present. It's a little toy shaped like a guitar with bells and all of that fun stuff.

Re: Show Me Your Pets!

His name is Cyndane. He's almost 5 years old now and the best cat I've ever owned. I've taught him "come", "no", "Not yours", "Ask", and most recently, I taught him to touch his nose to my finger on command. Randomly. There's no reason for that last one. But it's good to have a cat that stops and waits to be fed instead of helping himself mid-meal when you get up for a drink. And it's very nice to have a kitty beg to be let into a room when you tell him to "ask" nicely.
He also talks to me. I wonder if he has Siamese in him sometimes. But he is very polite when he talks. He goes "mao" instead of "meow", and talks quietly compared to his brothers.
I love my kitty. <3

Aw! He is absolutely gorgeous!
I love how he's snuggled into your arm (I'm assuming it's you) like that. And he sounds very intelligent. I can honestly say I don't know many, if any trained cats. That doesn't mean they aren't well behaved, but they are still unable to do the things Cyndane can.
I know what you mean about useless tricks though. I taught my dog this one thing a little while I ago. I'd get him to sit, lay down and then I'd tell him to "wait" and then place a treat on his paw. I'd keep telling him to wait, and he'd drool and try to look away in order to stop himself from eating it. And then I'd say "okay" and it'd be gone in a few seconds.
I've taught him to shake hands as well, and a few other useless things. If only he'd stop being so ignorant to the command "come". He only hears it when he wants to.

Immortal, your budgie is so pretty! I would never want a bird for a pet, but I like to look at them sometimes. ^^_^^
Sin, your cat sounds really cool. The only things I was ever able to teach him were that he wasn't allowed on the desk ((or he would get sprayed with water)) and how to play fetch. Though... playing fetch was more his idea than mine. It was just a lot of fun to play fetch with a cat.

I don't know that any cat is truly 'trained'. One just convinces them to do what they do naturally on command. Usually by offering treats. But yours, Sin, sounds wonderfully eager to please. And gorgeous too. My big gray sits balled up like that with my hubby. They 'write computer code' together. And he doesn't meow either. He almost peeps. Huge cat, teensy little voice. It's pretty comical.

Re: Show Me Your Pets!
It started as a training of necessity. He also has a very violent hunting side that gets really bad when he can't hunt during winter. He gets cabin fever and goes nuts. So I started training him to take it out on one of my thickly padded coats. I would just shove my arm in, make sure he can't get his legs up the sleeve, and he goes all out.
But he has managed to claw me up even through it, so I had to train him to let go on command. Three different verbal commands or even a shout will make him stop. Since then I've been training him because he is extremely attentive to people. He even takes commands from my mom sometimes. Hehe.
I wish I had a bird... Will never happen with these cats but I do.

Re: Show Me Your Pets!
Aww everyone has such awesome pets!
Unfortunately I don't have pics of all mine at the moment because I still haven't managed to pry them out of my old hard drive, but here is two recent pics, the first is of my adopted kitty. King Tut. Or informally Tut, and while being insane he's earned the nickname 'tutter the nutter' surprising how well it fits. >.>

Another of Tut and my fish Boss. He's a mean fishie so he lives alone.

Okay I lied, it's three pictures. One close up of Boss, cuz he's cool. lol. He can even change colors, from entirely yellow, striped (his normal appearance) to almost completely black.

Is Tut a Siamese cat? He has lovely eyes.
Do Boss' colours change according to his moods or what? What kind of fish is he?

Re: Show Me Your Pets!
Tut is indeed a purebred Siamese, and thank you Kathryn. It's amazing what he can get away with those pretty peepers of his. lol.
As for Boss, he's a bumblebee cichlid. They come from Lake Malawi in Africa. In their natural habitat they live in large caves with a particular kind of catfish, while the bumblebee cichlids are in their 'safe' black and yellow configuration they pick parasites off the catfish, then they change to a murky black to steal the catfishes' eggs when they spawn.
Also yes, in answer to your question, it can be an indicator of mood. Black for aggression and yellow when stressed.

Quoted for truth.

Takun laying under the covers as a result of him not getting off the bed when I was trying to make it.

The result of me wrestling with my dog on the bed.

This gives you an idea of scale to see just how big he has gotten in the past several months since I've gotten him. He is about 90lbs now.

This is the look I get whenever I head off to class every morning. Takun has such a good sad face that it is by pure willpower that I am able to leave the house at all.

This thread makes me want another pet, but I logically it's not a good idea.

Dear lord, Loki! I'm used to extremely large dogs ( I foster Great Danes). But Takun's huge! I can't believe he's only 90 pounds. He's positively gigantic for a husky.
And that last picture of him in the window would break my heart every time too.

True, but he is about par for an Alaskan Malamute.
In fact, his father weighed in at 135lbs, so I think he has a little more growing still yet.

I was about to say that I thought he looked like an Alaskan Malamute! Discovery and Animal Planet for the win.

I've taken a few more pictures of my pup since the blizzard came through, so I thought I would share them.

Is it just me or is he actually posing for this one?

Takun playing with my friend's 2 month old Husky/German Shepard mix, Turk.

Turk wrapped in my friend's coat. Does he not have the prettiest eyes?

That first picture definitely looks posed. It reminds me of those generic poses professionals always have their subjects do for senior portraits.
Personally, I think Turk's eyes look kind of eerie. ^o_o^

My new puppy, Sadie!
I haven't taken very good pictures of her yet, but it has been awful cold outside and my nice cam doesn't do great indoor shots.

I took this picture a week ago and I'm pretty sure she's already bigger...

I hope your floors are light in color, otherwise she's quite the tripping hazard. Especially whenever you are carrying food that she wouldn't mind taking off your hands by taking you off your feet.

We do have light floors. But I often have that problem with my going on 18 years black cat, who often likes to sleep on - you guessed it - black blankets. There have been many times I've accidently sat on her, or sat down and felt a tingling of hairs on the back of my neck to see her lounging on a throw, waiting for me to turn my head away so she can nab some chicken...
Good thing Spooky hates Sadie, or she might have taught her that trick!

hahah Purple must be your favorite, right?
It goes quite well with black, though.
Ipo was a tripping hazard despite being light grey in a house with medium-brown floors. He always liked to walk right in front of you when you were going somewhere.
I miss having a pet. ._.

I did to. I went a long time without having one actually living with me. I had Bob but he was murdered a few weeks after Taeo was born. Sadie is our first pet since Bob.
